Integration through qualification in the energy sector

Many migrant workers in Europe work in low-paid jobs with few opportunities for advancement. The POWGEN project aims to change this.

With local initiatives in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Italy, POWGEN supports migrants in gaining qualifications in the construction and renewable energy sectors.

The project offers:

  • Certified training in the fields of construction and renewable energies
  • Individual support in the job search
  • Sustainable placement of 150-250 migrants in 15-30 companies

The aim is to improve the labor market opportunities of migrants and thus facilitate their integration into society.

This is how POWGEN can help:

  • Higher qualifications and better pay for migrants
  • Tackling the shortage of skilled workers in the energy sector
  • Promote diversity and inclusion in the world of work

POWGEN is a promising project that can open up new opportunities for migrants in Europe. By gaining qualifications in the energy sector of the future, they can improve their chances on the labor market and thus contribute to positive change in society.

Goals

Created with Sketch.

 General objective:

POWGEN aims to improve job opportunities for migrants in Europe. To this end, five local projects in the fields of construction and renewable energies are being implemented in four countries (Spain, Portugal, Germany and Italy).

How does it work?

The projects offer migrants

  • Certified training in the fields of construction and renewable energies
  • Individual support in the job search
  • Placement with companies in the sector

Detailed objectives:

Development of a training program: A training program for migrants will be developed in cooperation with public administrations, integration professionals and companies in the construction and renewable energy sectors.

Improving expertise: Professionals and organizations working with migrants* are to be further trained through the exchange of practices and experiences in the areas of counselling, integration and job search.

Pilot projects: Pilot projects should improve the employability of 150 to 250 people with a migrant background, including at least 20% women. The projects are to be carried out with three to six companies from the construction and renewable energy sectors to ensure that at least 60% of the people trained can be placed in employment.

Networks: Networks between companies are to be created to improve the integration of migrants in the construction and renewable energy sectors.

Political changes: Policy changes at local and European level should be sought to promote the employment, recognition of qualifications and integration of people with a migrant background in the construction and renewable energy sectors.
